Attendance Policy
Please note that the ability to perform is contingent on attending class times and rehearsals. Competition team members are expected to be dedicated, responsible students, and as such, should have the lowest absenteeism rate.
1. If a participant misses more then 2 classes in a month, the instructor reserves the right to rearrange the routine, shifting dancers out of specific positions if necessary.
· If you are going on a family trip and would need to miss more then this amount, please work out plans with your instructors prior to the absences.
o Examples of excused practices include: school functions, religious functions, family functions, illness.
2. If we feel that a participant’s absences become too excessive, or occur at pivotal times, such as close to a performance, the instructor reserve the right to ask the dancer to step down from the team or pull them from a particular performance.
3. Attendance the week of a competition is mandatory and any student absent from class(es) during that week will be considered unexcused and, therefore, will be dealt with accordingly as instructor, coordinators and/or executive director see fit. Remember the team is scored as a team when competing and one student with bad attendance hurts the whole team. If any team member feels they cannot uphold their commitment to the team, it is suggested that they bow out of the competition team.
4. If the participants have a medical reason for not being able to participate we ask that you use your best judgment on whether to have them attend practice. If the participants are arriving to practice with physical ailments, and are unable to perform some or all skills, we will ask that you obtain a doctor’s note for their injuries.
5. We would also like to recognize that unavoidable sickness may come about. In the event of a sickness, the appropriate action will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the YMCA staff. This determination will be final.
